Blog: How To Help Haiti

Jan 25 2010

Nobody can fail to have heard about the disaster in Haiti following the devastating earthquake that took place in the Caribbean country on 12th January 2010. In the aftermath of this disaster, tens of thousands of people are dead. If, like us, you've been moved by the pictures you've seen on your TV, then why not do what you can to help.

Compassion, a charity that LTTM are closely linked with, are already working tirelessly to help the people affected by this earthquake. Here is an extract from their latest update on the situation:

Compassion Haiti staff members are currently working from the parking lot of the Compassion office as the building was damaged in the earthquake and is currently not safe for occupation. They are working hard to assess the damage to Compassion church partners and begin addressing their needs.

Transportation is still chaotic as roads are blocked by toppled buildings and crushed cars, as well as heavy equipment in the streets. This is making travel to child development centres very difficult.

Compassion is in the process of purchasing approximately 500,000 pounds of supplies that will provide medical and immediate relief to our staff, the children and their families and our church partners . This includes items like water, food, medical supplies, temporary shelter, and blankets. Compassion International is also currently assembling a medical team to travel to Haiti and address the overwhelming medical needs.

Compassion desperately need YOUR HELP. We would strongly urge you to make a donation to the Compassion Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

If you already sponsor a child with Compassion and you pay your sponsorship by Direct Debit, please click here to donate.

Alternatively, if you do not sponsor a child through Compassion and you would like to give to the Haiti Earthquake Appeal please go to their JustGiving page.
