Golddigger Appeal For Votes To Aid Project Working With Vulnerable Teenagers

Oct 13 2011

Sheffield based singing duo Golddigger are appealing for help as they launch a new project to work with the city's most vulnerable teenage girls who are at risk of sexual exploitation. The band have applied for a Natwest Community Force grant award and need votes from the public in order to win. If they receive enough votes to be in the top 3 projects then they will be given £6000 towards the project. Vote here.

Golddigger already run a youth work charity who work with teenagers across South Yorkshire addressing issues of self esteem, helping young people to make positive lifestyle decisions for their future. Now the group want to open a new base in Sheffield City Centre to operate over 12 weekly drop in sessions open to hundreds of young people, run two of their acclaimed girls courses (24 girls going through an 8 week course) and the establishing of a new detached project, meeting young people in the key 'hot spots' for sexual exploitation and trafficking.

"Over the past few months we've been working with a lot of teenage girls who really need a lot of support and help with really big problems in their lives", explains Golddigger. "Also social services and the police have come to us to say that there are loads of girls who are being targeted for sexual exploitation and trafficking and they need some help in working with these very vulnerable young people. They really want to get us involved! We've decided this is a really important project to take on - we hate seeing young people going through such a hard time and so we're going to do what we can to be be there for them. We're opening a brand new centre right in the middle of town where we can run drop in sessions, girls courses and do some detached work as well as maybe starting a project soon with boys!"

Golddigger, who released their full length debut album 'If Destroyed Still True' last year, will be back touring again with their band later in the year.
