Samestate hail from Kansas City and have just come off a tour with well known bands like Fireflight, Superchick and Hawk Nelson. With a new album coming soon, the band have given the world a sneaky peek with this four track EP named after the band.

Hurricane opens up the EP with its very distinctive alternative pop rock sound. But actually the vocals on the song really standout as one of the better points of the song. This poppy number has some strong points, but for me it's the chorus that is catchy, with the band singing "But all I want, heads are spinning faster... love is coming for you". The big guitar sound continues with Wake Me Up but for all the times you think I might have heard those chords and melody before, there are those little moments that keep the listener interested and this is what makes this power rock/pop band standout in what is already a busy genre of Christian music.
I love third track Shadows, and to be honest the whole album has a sound that will fit perfectly onto Christian radio. Samestate have a sound that will not offend and will be enjoyed by many different demographics. This could be seen by some as 'playing safe', yet thankfully this is a band who actually make really good pop songs and Shadows proves this. I could put this track on in any situation and the majority of the room wouldn't mind it.
From this EP the future looks bright for Samestate, and if these four track are anything to go by, I'm looking forward to hearing their full length album. For all the well produced sounds and safe pop/rock vibe, these are really strong songs that are catchy with interesting compelling chords and melodies from a vocalist who has a really strong and fascinating voice. I can't wait to hear more.
