Ben Thomas Repurposing Hymns For 'Bring Forth' Album

May 07 2015

Illinois based indie-folk singer/songwriter Ben Thomas releases his new project, 'Bring Forth', on 23rd June 2015.

'Bring Forth' is a collection of songs by Ben inspired by a handful of hymn lyrics dating from the 4th century to the 20th century, all seeking to find the Divine in the everyday elements of our existence... life, death, creation, re-creaton, dawn, day, dusk.

"It's basically an album of songs based on hymn lyrics, mostly hymns I'd never heard before", admits Ben. "I used the original lyrics as starting points but took a lot of liberties with them.

Thematically a lot of creation, re-creation, seeking the Divine in the ordinary. I'm releasing the album in 3 parts over over the next couple of months (Dawn, Day and Dusk), leading up to the full release on June 23rd.

Making this record has been one of the most fulfilling experiences in my life and has taught me a ton about the act of creating and re-creating... standing on the shoulders of others who have written before me, partnering with those around me via a $10,000 Kickstarter campaign, and mirroring the movements found in Creation itself - Dawn. Day. Dusk. - Humanity and Divinity in a daily dance of creation."
