DC Talk To Reunite For First Time In 16 Years For The Jesus Freak Cruise

May 11 2016

DC Talk have announced that they will perform live together as a band for the first time in 16 years when they take part in the 4 night Jesus Freak Cruise next year.

The Grammy award winning trio, consisting of Kevin Max, TobyMac and Michael Tait, will perform together as DC Talk during the cruise as well as with their current bands.

The news follows a week of build up and teasing on their social media pages, culminating in a video (see below) titled, "It's been 16 years. In 2017, the intermission ends." There have been mixed responses from fans, with some delighted at the chance to see one of Christian music's biggest ever bands again.

But others expressed disappointment that the much hyped announcement wasn't the widely expected reunion tour that has been anticipated for years. Some fans took to Twitter to plead for a tour claiming the cruise is too expensive.

Addressing the concern, DC Talk issued a statement saying, "This is a give back that we wanted to do - we wanted it to be intimate and special. More intimate than an arena tour could ever be. It embraces what we are doing and what we did. We are excited about both. Who knows what the future holds."

The Jesus Freak Cruise sails from Miami on 11th July 2017, visiting the Bahamas before returning on 15th. It will feature concerts from dc Talk, TobyMac, Newsboys, Kevin Max, Mandisa, Capital Kings and Finding Favour.

"One of the most influential and groundbreaking acts in Christian music have reunited for a vacation experience like none other", explained the cruise organisers. "dc Talk will be hosting the ultimate summer family vacation!

The Jesus Freak Cruise is the first time in 16 years you will be able to see dc Talk perform. Toby, Michael and Kevin will also be bringing their current bands which will make this cruise even more spectacular. Add in some of their other Christian music friends, and you have a summer vacation you will never forget."

DC Talk took a break in 2000 to pursue individual solo projects after five major studio albums together. Beginning with their self titled debut in 1989, their releases also included the legendary 'Jesus Freak' album in 1995. The group is widely considered to be the most popular Christian act of all time.

Since 2000 the band members have all enjoyed success with their chosen projects. TobyMac released albums such as 'Tonight', featuring the Number 1 Billboard single 'City On Our Knees', and continues to tour extensively.

Michael Tait has taken over as lead singer of the popular band Newsboys, who have released albums like 'Born Again' and 'God's Not Dead'. Kevin Max has released a number of solo albums, starting with the successful 'Stereotype Be', and more recently 'Playing Games With The Shadow'.
