Switchfoot have written a new song for inclusion in the forthcoming major motion picture from Universal Pictures/Working Title Agency, titled "Unbroken: Path to Redemption." Jon and Tim Foreman from the band wrote the song 'You Found Me' specifically for the movie.
"I love stories about hope and honor and courage; I treasure the perspective they offer me. One of my favorite stories is the tale of Louis Zamperini’s remarkable life - a legacy of finding hope in dark places", explains Jon Foreman. "His is a truly remarkable tale: After surviving a plane crash, 47 days lost at sea, and 2 years as a prisoner of war, he returned home to America haunted by the hatred and bitterness those years had beaten into him. He found salvation at a Billy Graham crusade and devoted his life to at risk and underprivileged youth.
When the producers of the movie about Louis Zamperini’s life approached us about writing a song for the film, (Unbroken: Path to Redemption) we jumped at the opportunity. And as I was writing the song, one thought kept coming back to me: He must have fought the temptation to give up, over and over again. We all face the temptation, every day of our lives. You don't have to be an Olympic athlete or a war hero to know what I'm talking about. This is a struggle that doesn't happen in front of the crowds. No. It's in the quiet moments where we question all that we hold dear. And sometimes the struggle can be so intense we feel as though we've lost the very core of who we are.
But in these moments of doubt and frustration we need to be reminded of the truth: we are not alone. I wanted to write a song that would capture the healing available not only to a hero like Louis Zamperini, but for the rest of us as well.
'You Found Me' is a song that highlights a journey of faith, redemption, and coming home. It's inspired by Louis Zamperini’s story but maybe you'll find yourself in there too. Cause we're all looking for hope, for truth, for answers- maybe the answer Himself has been looking for you."
