The British folk music scene has undergone something of a renaissance in recent years with many great artists springing up all over the country. Time after time, they have been able to prove that you don't need a multi-million pound recording contract to make great music, and Christian singer Lucy Bunce from Cambridge is the latest artist to prove that folk can be cool again.
Lucy's voice soars like a British Nanci Griffith on Penny On The Water, which is her second album and she really brings the songs, like Kaye Wolf's classic tune Across The Great Divide, to life.
Her chosen instrument is the harp, which gives the album a polished classical edge. The beauty of the album, which contains a mixture of original songs and covers of songs by established folk stars like Kate Rusby, lies in its simplicity. It's just Lucy's rich and powerful voice, her harp, acoustic guitars and the odd saxophone and clarinet. It might not have the profile or the budget of an X-Factor winner, but this album and a rich and timeless quality that will appeal to those who really love proper music.
If you are looking for an album to chill out on a wintry Sunday afternoon, then this could be for you.
