They always say first impressions are everything, and what a great first impression I got of this album, this was before I even put the music on. I love the cover, it's great to see a album cover looking creative and artistic. Fantastic first impression.
Moving onto the music and over the last few years there has been a lack of worship songs on the praise side, I remember hearing Mr Tim Hughes saying how hard it can be to write fast paced powerful worship songs. Christus Victor has quiet a few of them with opening track O Praise Him (Alleluia) setting the tone of the album with positive and fast guitars, which is similar to the anthemic Salvation Belongs to Our God that keeps the outpouring praise going.
This might be one of my boldest claims while writing a review for LTTM, but track two From Generation To Generation is probably one of the best worship songs I have heard this year. It's a song that has a great melody, biblical based lyrics which flow with honesty and truths, thrown in with some powerful guitar, this is one track worth checking out.
Another great song, but sadly didn't make my standout tracks yet is still well worth mentioning, is the track There Will Be A Day. This song features the amazing Phillipa Hanna, with each vocalist really adding their own to the track. There Will Be A Day has a hymn feel, another side of Nick's songwriting skills showing through.
Christus Victor is full of songs written for congregational worship, it is an album full of biblical truths within its lyrics. I'm sure these songs will speak to you about the amazing truths of God and encourage you in your daily walk with God, it helped me and isn't that what a strong worship album should do?
