VOTA (formerly known as Casting Pearls) are a Christian rock band from Lincoln, Nebraska featuring Bryan Olesen, a former guitarist with fellow Christian rock band Newsboys. Casting Pearls was formed by Bryan Olesen and bassist Case Maranville in 1997 when they joined drummer Shane Coop. After a few lineup changes, the band solidified in 2003 to include Olesen, Maranville, and drummer Scott Rutz. In July, 2003 the band met Peter Furler of Newsboys which lead to Olesen's tenure as lead guitarist for Newsboys from 2003-early 2006 and the self-titled release on Furler's Inpop Records of "Casting Pearls" in 2005. So... Vota by Vota, really why do bands do this, probably my biggest pet hate, albums named after the band name..poor. My first reaction to this album was wow, doesn't this sound like the newsboys in places, then I read the band History and it all made sense. First Track "Hard to Believe" sounds like something that was off the Newsboys album "Love Liberty Disco" album, but please don't let that worry you. Vota is full of well sung vocals, catchy pop tunes with creative drums and funky keyboard works that really fit with the style of now. One of the other very pop songs I want to draw your attention to is "Love's Taken Over" and has a very similar sounding melody to "Robbie Williams - Let love be your Energy", check it out for yourself.
With their Pop-tastic Catchy tracks on the album, this is well worth a purchase. It could be interesting to see this band live as they are very good.
