Mary Mary are made up of sisters Erica and Tina Atkins-Campbell. The duo have just released their fifth album Something Big. The girls are best known for their hit single Shackles (Praise You), although I'm sure the girls are bored of being associated with that one song as since that single release all those years ago their sound has moved on and jumped forward from pop gospel, to a more dance/gospel R&B sound.

Something Big is a twelve track album that genuinely has a good mix of styles of music. From the opening thumping Gospel anthem title tracks, Mary Mary sing "Something big happen to me, I Got to tell the world about", talking about becoming a Christian and sharing the message of Jesus to everyone they know. The album keeps going, jumping and pushing forward with the dance track Something Bigger, which in a strange way has a reggae vibe, overlaid with Christian lyrics this is one song that could easily be heard in a club.
Similar to the previous two dance tracks, I'm sure Never Wave My Flag will become a dance club favorite, with it's modern dance pop beats and synth sounds and electronic vocals. But as all good albums do, the album keeps moving from style to style to keep the fresh tones coming. The album then slowly fades into the soulful mid tempo thumping bass beat Walking which was the lead single and a very catchy song in that.
From an album that has a Gospel/Dance/R&B start, the last three tracks take a more softer Gospel/Pop feel. Catch Me, Sitting With Me and Homecoming Glory close of this album - big pop anthems, showing off the powerful voices of Erice & Tina. If you missed those clever harmonies the girls are so well known for, then this track doesn't let you down.
Mary Mary have created an album that is more diverse in sound than I was thinking and expecting Something Big would be. Lyrically these are uplifting songs about God and what He means to the sisters, with empowering lyrics adding to the strong music on the album. I'm glad to see Mary Mary pushing themselves, with modern dance beats, yet at the same time not going too far away from the Gospel/Pop sound that made them well known and loved. A solid album from Mary Mary.
