This song was inspired by the many times throughout the Bible where we read that God acted on behalf of His people ‘for His name’s sake.’ In this context, the word ‘name’ can also be exchanged for ‘praise’ or ‘glory.’ We are so grateful for Gods great act of mercy in saving us, but here we see that importantly it was also to bring glory to Himself. We then must first bring Him glory above all else. In turn, as CS Lewis wrote, “In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him.”
