Interview: Caspar McCloud
Guitarist, singer, songwriter, ordained minister, and bestselling author, Caspar McCloud has started the year with two new songs recorded with his band. Louder Than The Music chatted with Caspar about these songs, covering themes you might be surprised to hear about, and his thoughts on everything from global events to guitar amps!
Hi Pastor Caspar, you're back with some intriguingly titled new songs this month. First up, tell us a little bit about your track 'Nanobots' - that's probably not something many people expected to hear a Christian song about!
Being naturally curious about many things, especially about biblical end-times prophecies, and after writing several books and numerous articles over the years I had concluded that not all is as it seems. I never intended to do many of the things I have done, nor did I ever fancy becoming a paperback writer. Somehow the Lord had other plans for me because at first I was asked to be the worship leader at several prophesy conferences and I suppose I spoke a wee bit in-between songs because soon I was invited to be a conference speaker as well. The Lord used my friend Dr. L A Marzulli to push me into this arena as he had asked me to be one of his researchers and staff writers for his PP&S magazine.
Marzulli is a first-rate researcher and like a Christian version of Indiana Jones, he told me that we can’t use anything we can’t vet. I have also been blessed to work in ministry with several brilliant medical doctors who I also consider erudite scholars. We are all observing how marvelous some of these new scientific technologies are advancing, nevertheless, we are also seeing how they are being ushered in with nefarious purposes. Yes, I suppose not many recording artists would write about such things as Nanobots. I have had several friends tell me that I am probably one of the few people in the world who can get away with such things as writing songs about Nimrod's head and nanobots.
Nanorobotics are wee tiny microscopic robots whose components are at or near the scale of a nanometer. One of the main dangers of nanobots is their ability to self-replicate. Considering how Nanobots would not be too useful if you have to manufacture them yourself. I suppose we shall soon hear about transhumanist computers that are self-aware that past the Turing test. Back in the 1950s, Alan Turing is credited with a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behaviour that is indistinguishable from that of a human. Keeping in mind Sophia the robot was granted full citizenship in Saudi Arabia and that means she can vote in elections.
In the first verse of Nanobots we sing:
“NANOBOTS HYDROGEL FROM THE GATES OF HELL FOUNDATION
UNDERGROUND SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTATION
SHIVA DANCING CERN IN LOCKSTEP WITH THE ENTIRE ABOMINATION
LOOKING AT MANDATORY VACCINATION”
But then to keep things in proper perspective straightway we sing in humbleness the chorus.
"HEAVENLY FATHER, WE BOW DOWN
YOU SEE ALL THAT'S GOING ROUND
YOU'VE COVERED US IN THE BLOOD OF JESUS
FOREVER TO BE VICTORIOUS"
The song goes on to sing about how the Lord Jesus never wore a facemask or needed any vaccinations and how we who are his disciples are commanded to do things he did as stated in places like John 12:14. In Nanobots, I also mention the name of one of my physician friends Dr. Carrie Madje who is very outspoken and has the heart to warn people about what ingredients are in these vaccinations and what they can do. Could it be that mucosal vaccine delivery arises from the fact that mucosal surfaces represent the major site of entry for many pathogens? Maybe it’s simply that the use of nanocarriers provides a more suitable way for the nasal delivery of antigenic molecules and nanobots to set up its headquarters.
I have concluded that it is probably easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled. The Word of God tells us in the end times many shall be deceived, so much so that even believers may not discern the truth from lies for a while. (Study Matthew 24)
Most people are not aware that a dangerous chemical called DDT was being sprayed all over the place back in the 1950s and as a result, there was a polio outbreak pandemic as adults and children were breathing it in and being contaminated by it. It was finally banned in about 1954 and at the same time, the medical definition of polio was significantly changed to tighten the criteria. This set the stage to attribute the idea that polio was greatly decreasing because of the vaccines that were being administered. Only there are no scientific peer-reviewed papers proving vaccines help anyone. You are free to do your research and prove me wrong.
Regardless, we have been getting some rave reviews about our song Nanobots. I pray more people will share this song and help others to start investigating for themselves by utilising their God-given critical thinking skills, instead of merely believing propaganda news networks.
You've also just released another song, 'Cheat To Win', what's that one about?
Most people do not seem to understand that much of the mainstream news today is owned by only 5 corporations so they can dictate what is said. Clearly, there were things going on in the election processes that don’t add up. We read in places like Ecclesiastes 8:11,” Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”
They will not get away with their nefarious plans forever. In the New Testament we read in, Hebrews 10:31,” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
In Cheat To Win, we emphases the idea from the Holy Scriptures to do onto others as you have them do onto you. Matthew 7:12,” Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”
You've released some split screen videos for these songs recorded from each band member's location - but you must be itching to all be in the same room playing these songs for a live audience right?
Indeed we love playing in the same room together. Our band is spread out a wee bit as we all live in different cities. Somehow it all works out, most places we play we still have to travel to get to. We just performed live on a television show and during the soundcheck, we were asked how soon they could schedule us again to come back on. Well, that certainly blessed us. The producer and TV crew were most encouraging to us as the soundman came running out of the control booth to tell us how much he loved our music at the end.
Have you got any more new songs in the pipeline? What's next for you musically?
Yes, actually, we have more than half of the next album ready to mix. Our producer Glenn Taylor is keen to get working on it. We were together in my home studio rehearsing recently for a concert and some of my bandmates stayed the night. I got up early the next morning and was almost finished with another new song before breakfast.
Now the band tends to joke every time we are together how many new songs did you write this week?
For the music/tech geeks out there - talk us through the equipment and instruments you personally like to use.
For recording, I use Protools 12, and we do most of the basic tracks at my home recording studio. I like singing through a Rhodes K2 microphone, it's good for acoustic instruments too. I still use a trainwreck amp that I helped design with my mate the late Kenny Fischer. Kenn was preparing to build me another amp at the time he passed away and another friend of mine William Munster built it for me. I had unfortunately sold my first Two Trainwreck amps ever made during a difficult season in my life, they were both gifts that Kenn had built for me, back when I was recording for Atlantic Records. Kenn conducted the sale of both of them as I wanted him to be blessed with a commission. The world he created with Trainwreck amps is a pretty exclusive group of aficionados.
We sold the first Trainwreck amp for 1200, and the buyer turned around a month later and sold it for 3000, the last I heard it went for over 50.000. That said Trainwreck amps have a very unique sound to those with discerning ears, they are like the Stradivarius of amplifiers. After Kenn passed away the executor of his will sent me another Trainwreck amp that was an exact duplicate of my original amp, saying that the bloke who helped design this ought to at least have one. It was such an answer to my prayers because I couldn’t imagine ever getting my original amp back. I actually like the new one even better.
I still play the same old Gibson 345 guitar that I played when we designed Trainwreck amps. Although I tend to play my PRS with 24 frets a lot and my American Fender Stratocaster. I also play a GPS acoustic and a Norman Canadian acoustic, as well as a few classical guitars.
As someone who we can always rely on to give us a straight talking view on things - what are your thoughts on the recent unrest in Washington?
I could write you a book on this question, but to be honest I am not much interested in politics. When Benjamin Disraeli was our PM he is quoted as saying, “The world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes.”
As a musician growing up in the entertainment world, I can say that the audience sees a stage and is entertained with smoke, lights, and mirrors which are set in place to enhance the artist's performance. Now if they could see backstage they wouldn’t be so star-struck and impressed. William Shakespeare or was it Frances Bacon who wrote all the famous plays like the pastoral comedy As You Like It, which is where we get the famous line “All the world's a stage".
The almighty Word of God tells in places like 2 Thessalonians 2:9,” Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
What are your hopes for 2021?
With whatsoever time we have left let us live a life that is glorifying to the Lord Jesus. We are instructed in places like Psalm 90:12,” So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
It is wisdom to understand the times and seasons we now live in. The church for the most part understands salvation but seems to not know much about the sanctification process.
To all those who have read this far and who are wearing hats lined with aluminum foil, allow me to salute you!
Proverbs 16:7 - When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
I hope we can reach more and more people with the Gospel in these troubled unprecedented times.
During the Passover, the Lord did not check who was inside the houses in those ancient times to see who was worthy. He instead checked to see who had the blood of the lamb on their doorposts. Because none of us are worthy, none of us have lived a sinless life. Only the Blood of Jesus can save us.
I love to consider Romans 15:13,” Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” 1 Corinthians 2:9, ”But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
