Interview: Sharilyn
Sharilyn Annita is an emerging vocal talent in the world of gospel music, with a unique style. Louder Than The Music chatted with her to find our what inspires her to make music, and to discuss her brand new single 'Perfect Messiah'.
For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?
I am an artist who loves to write lyrics, I have done that most of my life. I am also big on instrumentation. I can listen to someone just soloing a guitar and be quite entertained. I knew making music was something I wanted to do for a long time. I started writing specifically about faith and realized it would be amazing to share the glory of God through my music with others.
Tell us about your new single 'Perfect Messiah' and what the inspiration behind it was?
Perfect Messiah is just one of those songs with so much emotion, good emotion. The lyrics came to me one day while I was praying, so I strongly believe the Holy Spirit gave me these beautiful words to sing. It’s a moment for us to honor Christ and his sacrifice for us. What a beautiful Lord we serve.
Do you have any plans to release more music in the near future?
Yes, my next single Good Ground is a very springy summer song, and just a great song to vibe to.
What message would you like people to take from your music?
That God is a good God, and my motto is “Jesus Made It Simple” there is nothing hard about serving God, I have never felt so free in my life. And it is a lot of fun. I like this saying “if you are not having fun serving God then you are not doing it right”
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
I would say wide, broad. I have so many musical influences from blues, rock, country, pop, and I think it shows in my music.
If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?
I would have to say the greatest psalmist of all time lol King David, just to pour that kind of love and honor into words it is amazing!
How would you define success in your career as an artist?
Making a difference in someone’s day. Keep moving the victory forward.
What is your favorite album of all time?
Mississippi Mass Choir Greatest Hits
You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your phone. What track is it?
I need you now by Smokey (literally)
What does the next year hold for you?
Just living life day to day and remaining thankful, plus more music.
