Emma says of this album "During the first lock-down, I slipped a disc in my back and ended up not being seen by a doctor for ten months, spending some of that time in a wheelchair…with three young children at home because the schools were closed! This experience birthed the song ‘Companion in Sorrow’, which was a side of God that was revealed throughout that time. He was my companion; my friend in the fire, during those long months of pain and isolation. The theme of Coming Home is something I hold on to as I walk through life, reminding me of what is important. It can be so easy to focus on the here and now, but I think God calls us to look beyond that, to a wonderful future with Him"

And you can hear that theme running through the album from start to finish, there is a focus on God no matter what life is throwing at you, be it lockdown, be it hardship, be it medical issues, be it the day to day of life, Emma has written an EP about the love of God. For example the opening track 'Eyes On Me' is all about remembering to focus on God. The song 'No Fear' is about not worrying and handing that over to God. 'Companion In Sorrow' is about God holding us in the fire, and for me is a truly beautifully put together track, added to that is that we get to hear the stunning vocals of LTTM favourite Ian Yates, who adds a stunning vocal dimenison to the song. Other worthy mentions are that the creative musicianship of the track 'Be Healed' is superb, and closing track 'Coming Home' is a lovely soft country esq track that close the EP gently but beautifully.

Muiscally you would call Emma a true songwriter, she writes songs with lyrics that have a meaning, she is what I would call an honest emotional songwriter, where she sings and talks about stuff that is speaking to her heart at that moment. I know I've said this before but if you had to label her stylewise I would say a mix of Alanis Morrisette, Lou Fellingham, Philiips Hanna and The Cranberries. If you like music that has meaning, great vocals, great melodies - then 'Friend In The FIre' is a must. Emma has made an EP that purely encourages the listener to look and focus on God and this is what this album does 100%.
