Swiss Songstress Claudia Balla Releases New Single '88' Feat. Laura Scaglia
Claudia Balla teams up with fellow Swiss songstress, Laura Scaglia, for her latest single, “88”, an epic sounding summer anthem topped with a bit of eighties nostalgia.
The duet tells the story of a love affair with an unfortunate turn of events as the protagonist is murdered by her love interest and ends up in the bottom of a lake (“Lilies growing on my skin, I can’t talk right now”). In retrospect, she admits having noticed the reg flags from the beginning (“I’m the black sheep, you’re the wolf.”) however decided to look the other way and not trust her instincts (“My back was too straight, I knew that I’d meet my fate.”).
"When I was writing the song, I could see the story quite clearly, like a film", Claudia explains. "The narrator, a young woman, clad in a long sleeved, white linen summer dress, falling into the water in slow motion, at night, her lifeless body hitting the bottom of the lake (was she stabbed before being pushed? If she was stabbed, it was definitely from behind the back, she was caught off guard.), reminiscing about her misfortune."
"The murder itself for me has a symbolic aspect to it - it can be interpreted on a physical, psychological and social level at the same time, the latter referring to social media and cancel culture."
"I asked Laura to join me on this track as she has a powerful voice that fits very well with the theatrical vibes of the song and I think she really nailed it, her vocals are quite amazing".
