New Lineup For Frye Family Band On Latest Project 'This is Your Victory'
Frye Family Band's latest project, 'This is Your Victory', is the first to feature the band's new lineup. The album features eight new songs from the Frye Family Band plus an original Christmas bonus track, which was released as a single in December of 2022. 'This is Your Victory' is available in CD format on the band's website and at the Frye's concerts.
Three singles from the project have thus far been released on all major streaming platforms, 'Resurrection Sunday', 'He's Still There', and most recently 'Who God Is'.
The Frye Family Band has experienced a few lineup changes in recent years, but one thing that has never waivered – Family! The current lineup includes the band’s founder and patriarch Tom Frye, his son Jonathon, Jonathon’s wife Mane (mah-NEIGH), longtime drummer Eric Reynolds, and Brian Bentz who sometimes also joins the band on drums and percussion.
'This is Your Victory', is not only the first to feature the new lineup but also the first to be produced by the band, with Jonathon Frye wearing the hat of executive producer. “We just felt like we were ready”, relates Jonathon, "We’ve worked with some great producers over the years and each one, in some way or another, has helped us shape our sound. But, as we were talking about our vision and goals for this project one thing was clear; we wanted something that was more representative of what we do in our live shows. So, it just made sense for us to produce this one together." The band did have a few special guests join them in the studio, however, including longtime friends Mike Milligan (of Mike Milligan and Steam Shovel) on lead guitar, Marty Wright on organ, and Eric’s son Ian on percussion. One thing that has remained consistent with This is Your Victory, is the tight family harmonies you’ve come to expect from the FFB.
And as for the songs themselves, in addition to Jonathon and Mane, Tom also worked with some very talented songwriters to help bring these songs to life including, Michael Farren, James Tealy, and Daniel Doss, to name a few. All told This is Your Victory includes eight new songs, many of which are already mainstays in the FFB’s concerts, including He's Still There, Restless, and Big Ole Stone (Victory) which, incidentally, has also been released by the Triumphant Quartet on their 2024 project God is Listening. "Having an act as well known and respected as the Triumphant Quartet want to record a song I helped write is truly an honor", Tom said.
He’s Still There: written by Tom, Mane, & Jonathon Frye
The title song of the project features Mane on lead vocals and was written in response to an attempted suicide by someone known by the Fryes. The chorus lyric reminds the listener “He’s still there when you can’t see Him. He hears your prayers when you can’t hear Him. He feels your pain when you can’t feel Him and when you don’t believe Him, He’s still there.”
Who God is: written by Tom and Michael Farren (writer of many hit songs including Dry Bones Come Alive and Let it Rain)
This song features Tom on lead vocals and is a reminder that our identity is not found in our hurt, mistakes, or troubles, or abuse, but only in our relationship with Jesus. The song starts out with the lyrics, “To the addict, He is freedom, the kind that pulls you from the brink again, and to the bitter, He’s compassion who understands your struggle to forgive” and later in the chorus the song reminds us “It don’t matter who you think you are, all that matters is who God is.
Resurrection Sunday: written by Tom and James Tealy
This song features Jonathon on lead vocals and is a prayer written from the perspective of someone at the end of their rope, part of which sings; “More than just a second chance Jesus I need a resurrection.”
Greater: written and fronted by Tom, this song was written for friends who lost their baby. The lyric begins with “I’ve had to learn to be ok, knowing I am not ok” And goes on to say in the chorus, “You are Greater than my greatest need, Greater than this pain that wants to hide this truth from me.”
I Will Believe: written by Tom, Leah Paschall and Chris Clayton
This song features Mane on lead vocals and is an upbeat declaration to hold on to faith in all circumstances. The bridge lyric says, “I will defy my fears, I will declare to my doubts, My God is Greater!”
Big Ole Stone: written by Tom and Daniel Doss
This song also features Mane on lead vocals and begins with the lyric “You are more than the sum of your mistakes, don’t be haunted by the ghosts of yesterday.” And later in the chorus asks, “If you believe in an empty grave, that big ole stone’s been rolled away, lift your hands in victory.” Grammy Nominated and Dove Award Winning group the Triumphant Quartet has recorded their own version of this song, which is currently on the Southern Gospel Charts and has been as high as high as #3. The Frye Family Band plans to release this as a single in the future as well.
This Truth Remains: written by Tom and Matt Crosson
This song reminds us that the Truth of God remains no matter the circumstances and in the chorus declares, “Our God is Faithful, Our God is Good, Our Constant Comfort, Our Hope Secured, Though the answer’s not always sure. Our God is faithful, Our God is good.”
Restless: written and fronted by Tom
This is a simple confession and prayer that features this transparent lyric, “Lord I want my way, but I want Your way more, so make me restless until I rest in You.”
