Rend Collective Experiment To Release Intimate Live Album 'Campfire'
Rend Collective Experiment will release their new album 'Campfire' on 28th January 2013. The intimate worship album was recorded live around a campfire on Ballyholme beach in Northern Ireland after an invitation to participate was given via Facebook and Twitter.
The album uses inventive new arrangements of material from their previous two albums, 'Organic Family Hymnal' and 'Homemade Worship By Handmade People', to lead a small gathering of friends in worship around the campfire. Also included is a version of Matt Redman's recent worship anthem '10,000 Reasons'.
"There are no outsiders in the Kingdom", band member Gareth states. "That's part of why we chose to record around the campfire. Worship is not exclusive or confined within the walls of a church: it's a flame for everyone to gather around."
'Campfire' will be exclusively available on CD from Rend Collective's website, as well as digitally via iTunes.
"Sonically, Campfire is a fresh and innovative take on the New-Folk and Indie genres; an acoustic project by virtue of the fact that there are no plug sockets on the beach!" explains the band's press release.
"The album is entirely driven by classic, retro folk instruments that could be played by the fireside and by the ocean. The result is a an album which captures the raw, rootsy, foot-stomping energy of the Irish worshippers, which has been infectious to audiences across the globe, as well as the vulnerability and intimacy of home group worship.
It is always difficult to quantify and define a Rend Collective LP, but this album has the imaginative instrumentation of Sufjan Stevens, the kitschy charm of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and the passionate song-craft of Glen Hansard."
The band will also be encouraging others to start their own community fires and will be providing a free resource for people to download from their website called "Campfire Resource Pack".
