Campbell Sibthorpe To Release Self-Titled EP

Aug 31 2015

Campbell Sibthorpe will release his self-titled EP on 12th October, 2015.

"The experience of music is emotional and physical to me", he explains. The kinds of stimuli that kickstart Campbell’s creative process are often certain emotional situations - he is clearly an emotionally driven artist. He will work from his visceral responses to those experiences that stand out from the everyday.

Given this emotional energy harnessed from experience, Campbell will normally start directly with singing, and a mental image will come. Visualizing a situation projected and evolving within the mind is a crucial stage in the songwriting process.

"I feel a lot of the time, I come into writing never knowing what I’m going to write, but I just want to dump whatever comes from my head. It seems to me that I take in all the information around me and when I come to sit down and start playing, all is put into perspective and the experiences I’ve had are almost validated or grounded by what comes out of my mouth."

The most uptempo track on the EP, Lion is a campfire folk sing-along; an impassioned song of praise to the Godhead straight from the heart. The lyrics are Campbell’s personal reflection on that same metaphor that CS Lewis used in his Chronicles of Narnia - that of the Lion as a symbolic representation of Christ and/or God.

"I wrote Lion around a time when I was picturing God the Father as a lion figure, and reflecting on how the media and my mind each portrayed different versions of this lion. Was he furious in strength? Was he quiet and soft? Was he bold and loud? [I was] depicting these lion traits as the experiences we have/had in his presence."
