Interview: Maria Gilpin
Northern Ireland singer/songwriter Maria Gilpin released her debut EP 'Giving It All' last year through 7Core Music. LTTM caught up with the newcomer for a quick chat about all things music, plus being a mum.
Tell us a little bit about this new album of yours?
Giving it all is basically prayers birthed from experiences we as a family have been going through for the past few years. It's about reminding ourselves that through trails and hardships that if we lay it all down at Jesus' feet, He can turn it into something beautiful.
Which is your favourite track on the album and why?
I would have to say overflow. Being a parent can be hard work, we have two beautiful boys, Noah who is 5 and Seth who is 2. Earlier this year Noah was diagnosed with Autism. I was completely broken. Overflow was a song that completely changed my perspective of our situation. As a mother you go into super crazy 'I've got this' type of mum when your kids are struggling but God gently reminded me I was carrying stuff I didn't need to! He has it all under control and it was time I handed it all over to Him!
If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?
I would have to say Foy Vance, his voice is insane!
Do you prefer playing live or working in the studio?
Although working a studio is fun, nothing beats playing live
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
we would describe our style of music as a natural authentic acoustic vibe. Less is more influences would be legends like Martin smith, David crowder, guys from switchfoot. These guys changed our whole perspective on worship growing up.
How would you define success in your career?
Obedient! Not always easy but it's our constant goal.
What is your favorite album of all time?
That is such a hard question! SO MANY! Delirious king of fools!
You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your mp3 player. What track is it?
Resurrecting elevation worship
