Cageless Birds, a collective founded by Jonathan and Melissa Helser of Bethel Music, have released their first album in 5 years, 'We Rise We Bow', in two parts. 'We Rise', which is what I'm reviewing today, and 'We Bow' which will be available towards the end of the year.

The album for me has a sweet, tender feel to it. In general it is atmospheric and creative but at the same time it packs a punch, but not in an 'in your face' kind of way. These are songs that are full in body and have a lot for the listener to unpack.

The song 'We Rise', the title track of the collection, is a foot tapping sing-along kind of song, with some really lovely guitars, it also uses the orchestral sounds to their full potential. Add on top of that some really strong vocals and you have a really standout song.

Moving the album on we find the song 'The Reason', which again is an atmospheric, mid tempo, alt pop track that manages to draw the listener in. 'Glorious' has this big chorus that I couldn't get out of my head and 'Mountain High' has these soft and tender vocals that are spinetingling at times, and again the use again of orchestral sounds makes this a truly stunning piece of music.

If you wanted to know more about the work of this collective; The Cageless Birds is a missional community founded by Jonathan and Melissa Helser. "We live and work on 52 acres of land located in Sophia, North Carolina. Our ministry is dedicated to seeing hearts liberated by the love of God. We host worship gatherings and lead discipleship schools, retreats and camps for all ages known as the 18 Inch Journey. As a creative community we are devoted to wholehearted living and cultivating the arts through: writing books, recording original music, handcrafting leather goods and pottery, roasting coffee and creating visual art. All of the proceeds from these products enable us to continue leading schools and discipling hearts." This album is one small part of the creative work they are doing there.
