Emma Grant is a singer songwriter from Liverpool. She lives with her husband Tom and their three young children. She has been singing from as far back as she can remember, from practicing along to the divas in her bedroom, to entering local karaoke competitions! She started to gig regularly as a solo artist, then later as lead singer of jazz funk band ‘One Nation’. In 2010, Emma put music aside while she took time out to get married, start a family and co-lead an Eden Team back in Liverpool with her husband Tom, which she is still very much part of.

Ten years later, she is back with a new album entitled 'Influencer', which is an amalgamation of a lot of her musical influences. The songs fall directly into the musical pool of Coldplay, Rend Collective, Imagine Dragons and definitely Lou Fellingham. You can also hear her musical influences all the way through the song; Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and also Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Enya, Simon and Garfunkel, Alanis Morrisette and The Cranberries.

I don't usually comment about album covers, but I love the colours on the artwork, and it kind of really captures the album stylistic wise, also the rainbow colours feel very apt.

The album opens with first single 'I Don't Hate You', which is a very interesting topic for Emma to start with, and not an easy song topic to pitch, but in a way it's one that isn't tackled at all. Emma gets the balance just right here, with it being articulated perfectly and also being a very catchy song. When you break down the song, it all comes down to being humble and graceful and it's this kind of theme that runs through the album.

This is an album about people, and about people's lives. Of course the album deals with other themes but this is a real "human record" about feelings and people, and you only have to spend a few moments listening to the sweet 'Born To Be' and the acoustic 'Know You're Loved' to know this album is about people's feelings. The song 'Fake News' sees Emma get a bit more political, what I love about this song is there are so many amazing one liners in here, I'll let you have a listen and pick your favourite, but is a very important though provoking song that leaves you thinking, smiling and pondering social media and so much more.

'Staying For Love' is a hard listen, its a raw and honest track that is hauntingly beautiful in many ways but also will leave you an emotional wreck. I've said this already but the word I think sums this album up so well is emotional, and everything that goes with that. 'As I Am' is a powerful anthem with a great chorus, 'Influencer' is about making an impact in the world but not in the Instagram kind of way!

Emma Grant has made an album here that falls right into the emotional songwriter category, not in a country kind of way and not in a pop way. Emma makes music that is mature in lyrics, music that is passionate and powerful, and if you had to label her in style wise I would say a mix of Alanis Morrisette, Lou Fellingham and The Cranberries. As an album as a whole the production is brilliant and the quality is great, but for me trying to pick standout tracks is really hard, because the album is a whole package, this isn't a singles album, this is a storytelling album, actually this is a human emotional record.
