Whenever Hawk Nelson release an album there seems to be a lot of hype about it via the internet and social network sites. These guys must have fans who really care about their band. It doesn't seem so long ago that the band released their last album Live Life Loud, which again had a lot of hype about it. Now the band have just released 13 new tracks put together as an album called 'Crazy Love'.

It doesn't seem so long ago that the band released their last album Live Life Loud, which again had a lot of hype about it. Now the band have just released 13 new tracks put together as an album called 'Crazy Love'.
Produced with Ian Eskelin (All Star United, Francesca Battistelli, Starfield), 'Crazy Love' is already generating a buzz among fans. Last week, more than 20,000 fans downloaded a free new track, 'Skeleton', in just four days. Frontman Jason Dunn says "We're very excited about our new record. It's got some old-school punk rock feel to it, as well as some songs my mom would appreciate".
In regards to old-school punk rock, that comes from tracks like One Shot, Fraud and Joanna which make up the end of the album. But the start of the album for me seems to head towards the pop rock sound, especially with title track Crazy Love and Your Love Is A Mystery, which at times makes it seem like there are two different albums in one package.
The album does have more tender moments, My Next Breath is a beautiful song, lyrically expressing God's love and what He did for us. We need him more than anything, the band sing "You open up your arms, and give me a new start, I need You, I need You more than my next breath, I know that I am loved, You bought me with Your blood, I need You... more than my next breath", brilliant stuff.
This albums seems to jump from catchy pop rock, to punk, to ballad rock, to out and out pop very easily. Does that mean this is an album of a band not happy with just playing one style and sound, or an album that's confused about what it wants to be and doesn't flow very well? For me the answer is simple, this is a band who want to put out the songs that God has given them, even if that means one song being a bit poppy and another song being a bit more punk. This is a band who want their music to be for everybody.
Even with all the hype I wasn't sure If I was going to like this album, I have not really been a Hawk Nelson fan, but with the last two albums I have grown to enjoy this band more and more. There are songs on this album I really enjoyed, and there were ones I didn't enjoy as much, a very pick and mix album Crazy Love, and who doesn't love Pick n' Mix?
For fans of this band, these 13 songs will be loved. If you like your worship with a large hint of pop rock then this album is for you. Listen to the song We Can Change The World (which has a hint of Mighty To Save about it), lyrically a great worship song about wanting to make this world a better place. Sung with passion this is a great song, one of many great songs on this album.
