I love it when an artist releases an album and then releases the same tracks in acoustic format. It usually isn't as quick after the original release, I must say, but when they do it usually shows the listener how a song started it’s life and then the process it went on to sound the way it does. It’s a great glimpse into the artist world, it's like being at the birth of the song that only a select few are privileged to.
But with this acoustic release from Hollyn, the songs could have stood up on their own as a release, they really could have. If Hollyn has released these song like this you would have been happy and impressed and the songs still would have made the impact that they have. When a song is good, it sounds brilliant if recorded acoustically or as a studio produced track.
What these songs recorded in this way do show us is how amazing a songwriter Hollyn is. She has written these powerful songs that mean so much to her, you can tell there is a personal element in the songs, I know I say it a lot but you can really tell these songs are from the soul.
Readers of LTTM will know that Hollyn can sing, there is no doubt about that, but these acoustic versions show us the vocal talent in a more clean and crisp way.I would be tempted if I was you to purchase and listen to both versions of this EP, because both add different elements to the songs and it's a joy to hear them this way.
