V Rose is very much unknown to me, and she might be for you too. So let me just give you a quick history lesson about who V.Rose is. This singer was born in Sacramento, California, and began singing at the age of six. During her teenage years she started her first singing group with her best friend Candice. The duo, known as Harmony, sang wherever they could. In 2005 the duo disbanded but this didn't stop V.Rose from carrying on. This is a pop album, very pop, yet modern chart pop, and I kind of like that. I admit it took a bit of time for it to grow on me, but after a good few listens I can appreciate this album has some great moments. Starting with the opener Not Ashamed, vocally V.Rose falls into the same bracket as J-Lo, mixed with the female vocalists from Glee - you can see where I'm heading with this. Anyway with a great dance backing track Not Ashamed is a real head turner.
Christian Girl was for me a little bit to cheesy and cringe-worthy, but then maybe the song isn't really aimed at me with a chorus of "I'm a Christian Girl, not of the world, I walk the straight and narrow like runway model...only one way..." Something tells me this song isn't really for me, not sure why! But from the promising start I felt the song wasn't as good as the opener. This feeling soon changed with the amazing, and I mean amazing, dance-esq tune Battery, taking the energy level of the album through the roof. This song features FLAME and he adds so much fullness to the track, it has that dance anthem feeling and is a stunning tune.
This album jumps from very girly-girly bubblegum pop to big dance anthems with big bass tones and big drum beats. I personally prefer those big electronic bass beats in the songs than the softer pop sounds. An example of the album at its best has to be Run That Way which has a Shakira sound to it, with it's big sounding deep bass beats this is one stunning Christian dance track, more of this please.
This V.Rose album has been played a good few times on my music player, and actually it has really grown on me. With all good pop songs they are usually catchy and get stuck in your head, this album is no different. I found myself enjoying these songs as much as any other pop album that is around at the moment. Of course, with all albums, some tracks are stronger than others. But all in all a great set of songs from a very talented pop singer.
