Standing Phase have released their new single 'Learning Still'. Bringing their own unique blend of soul with funky undertones and gospel influences, Standing Phase (formerly The Woodville) consists of core members singer/songwriter Charly Jay-Wood and guitarist/co-writer Luis Wood.

Whilst living in New Zealand she joined forces with guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Luis as co-writer and they formed The Woodville band together. Back in Brighton, UK they worked with acclaimed producer/pianist Mark Edwards (Katie Melua, Carleen Anderson) and renowned drummer Troy Miller (Diana Ross, Gregory Porter) on the singles ‘Fade Away’ and ‘Always’.

This is a beautiful song which starts off with a gentle picking guitar that creates the stunning sound that is the backbone of the song. The song itself really grows as the seconds tick by, with each moment in the song the layers of musical texture are added to create a really lovely track. From a lovely tone to the song, to the smooth airy vocals, this is a really beautiful release.

'Learning Still' is the kind of song to listen to as the sun is setting over a beautiful day. It's a great acoustic summer track which sort of touches the country music side of the world, but isn't a country song at all. This is a genuine, honest, pop record.

What surprised me about this song was that right at the end it throws this massive curve ball. With about a minute left the guitars and beat have a little jump and turn into what I can only describe as a smooth, funky sound. It is so left field compared to the first 4 minutes, it kind of catches you off guard, but it strangely works. This not only keeps the listener alert, but it also showcases the talent of this group.
