If you read Jono's recent review of the Hillsong United album you will have seen his comment about those people who have negative opinions - that's me! I honestly can't remember what but in my early days following Christian music I heard something about Hillsong which made me not consider their music. I have to say though, after reading his review I was quite curious to hear it for myself and I don't know what I was expecting.

I honestly can't remember what but in my early days following Christian music I heard something about Hillsong which made me not consider their music. I have to say though, after reading his review I was quite curious to hear it for myself and I don't know what I was expecting.
What I got though was an album with some great melodies and hooks accompanied by beautiful voices. Recorded live over three shows in March 2009 this album bizarrely sounds seamlessly from track to track. This is actually one of the negatives of the album; it's been a long time since the days that albums were listened to on tape and so had to be listened to in order (of course I'm far too young to remember those days, but I've been told) so the fact that each song fades into the next makes it hard to listen to single tracks if one particularly stands out for you.
The live feeling of the album gives some great moments of heartfelt worship but the way the crowd has been leveled into the tracks sometimes gives a slightly echo-y sound which I could do without, but as I've said before I'm not incredibly keen on live recordings without a DVD to compliment it.
On the whole it's a pretty good album. I'm not sure it's the kind that you would put on in your car to see you through a journey, but for those times when you want to be inspired to worship and praise it would suit pretty well. I can imagine most of the songs totally being performed and loved in my Church or at a festival but I would need a studio recording for them to work elsewhere.
