Keith & Kristyn Getty - Hymns For The Christian Life
I've got a little bit of a story about this album. A week ago I was invited out with my in-law's for a traditional Saturday lunch. After the food, my mother in law needed to head to the local 'Christian Bookshop' to pick up some children's books for the Sunday School lessons she was doing the following week.

As anybody who has ever entered a Christian Bookshop will know, hidden in the corner is usually a randomly pick of Christian worship albums and there is always a chosen album playing. I didn't take much notice at first to what was playing, but the music suddenly caught my attention. I really liked the female vocals, so with intrigue I went to explore what was playing, and discovered it was the wonderful Keith & Kristyn Getty with their new album 'Hymns for the Christian Life.
Some of these hymns are really beautiful, the song A Mother's Prayer is sublime. The opening guitar work on Simple Living must also be complimented. But as I said earlier, it's the vocals and the production of this album that I really have to bring to your attention.
You might not think you like hymns, and yes these songs are all hymns and not necessarily done in a modern way, but what the Getty's have done with these songs is actually given them a fresh lease of life. Be that in quality, production or simply by creating a great new version of the song.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this album musically as I'm not into Celtic music or even hymns, but this album adds all the traditional sounds of those genres without making it sound cringe-worthy. I enjoyed listening to these worship songs very much, although I probably wouldn't listen to this album everyday. I think I would miss the guitar and drum sounds if I did. But as a Hymns album, this is one of the best ones I have had the opportunity to hear. Worshiping to hymns like the ones in this collection is a must, and I think some of these versions are at times absolutely stunning.
