Prolific worship leader and Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Matt Redman has been penning songs for the local church for over fifteen years. Some of his more well known songs are favorites like Blessed Be Your Name, Heart of Worship and You Never Let Go, to the more recent Our God and You Alone Can Rescue, which have been the soundtrack to the church and used by worship leaders throughout the world. For me personally as a worship leader in my own local church, there probably isn't a Sunday that goes by without a Matt Redman song being sung in my church.

Matt Redman moved back with his family to the United Kingdom in August 2010, but felt a return to Atlanta earlier this year was the right move to record his latest live album '10,000 Reasons. The album has over 1,000 worship leaders from across the country joining Matt in creating the sound of this album. It was during LIFT: A Worship Leader Collective put on by Passion City Church that these songs and this recording were created.
We all have favorite albums from Matt Redman, and for me personally his best albums are The Fathers Song, Facedown and his latest studio album We Shall Not Be Shaken. All of these are stunning albums and expressions of musical music to God. I suppose you could in part compare '10,000 Reasons' with Matt's 'Facedown' album. The Facedown album was recorded in a leaders worship conference in a live setting, also again birthing out a whole album of new worship songs and that's what this new album does.
There are many co-writers on this album, including Jonas Myrin, Jason Ingram, Chris Tomlin, Matt Maher, Tim Wanstall and Jesse Reeves. In regards to Matt joining a new church back in Brighton, UK his crossover experience with the American and British church has affected his songwriting. "With a new church, you're very mindful of the un-churched coming in. You have to find ways to not water down your faith but to be lyrically as accessible as possible. That's an endless challenge. It makes me always want to keep the cross front and centre." Lyrically this album does that, keeping honest truths about what God has done for us, but not over using so called church words or lyrics. That isn't as easy to do as you might think, to try and express God's love in a creative and different way is a very difficult task, but one I think Matt has done very well.
For me this will be joining the list of my favorite Matt Redman's album, it's jammed packed with eleven amazing proclamation worship songs, such as the up beat We Are Free and Here For You (you might of heard this one on the new Passion Album) which have a modern beat and style to them and are great songs with strong lyrics and guitar sounds. If you're looking for a song that has more of a hymn feel, with big powerful hymn like lyrics, look no further than the title track 10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord) it has the feel of 'yes I want to worship this amazing God, I have so many reasons to praise Him, so I'm going to do it no matter what' .
Maybe because this album was recorded in a live setting there is a real congregational feeling to it, mixed into the songs very well is the vocals of the 1,000 worship leaders, adding depth to the songs. This comes across in the more congregational songs like Never Once and Where Would We Be. Musically Matt tries different ideas, but does keep to the style that we have come to know from him. I suppose a few of the songs from this album wouldn't be a miss if they had appeared on We Shall Not Be Shaken, songs like We Could Change The World are a prime example.
What Matt Redman has always done and done very well is to give the church songs that are accessible to everyone, young and old, and people who enjoy different genres of music. These songs are simple songs of love to God, and no matter how clever a song writer is with words, music or style, if the centre of the song is to proclaim who God is then it's a good song for me, and Matt has written eleven strong songs. Play the album till the end because this album finishes on an amazing high with the piano led Endless Hallelujah starting off as a simple love song to God, before bursting into life with passion and velocity.
There is more than 10,000 reasons to love God, 10,000 Reasons to worship God, and I'm sure there is more than 10,000 reasons why God loves every one of us, but for now this album has eleven reasons to help us worship the King of Kings. Amen .
