If there is one band that I get asked about when their new album is being released, it's Switchfoot. I usually get asked "What is the new Switchfoot album like? Is it any good?" And the answer is usually, "Yes it's good". I have been giving that answer for nearly 20 years and I can honestly say I have never lied.

So will I give the same answer for their new release Interrobang ? Yes I will, I really like this Switchfoot album. But don't expect it to sound like a Switchfoot album that you heard 20 years ago.

Switchfoot have never really made the same album twice and with this new release they haven't again. I am truly in love with the gentle and generally relaxed feel to this album, the band feel free and fresh and even their most creative to date. Interestingly enough, at times this album in part feels like the sounds of Jon Foreman's seasonal EP's from around 2008, maybe sounds is the wrong word, but it seems to have that quality of those releases and embodies that songwriting style. I can't wait to see how the band put these songs alongside all their classic hits live, but I tell you its going to sound epic.

There are so many great songs on this new album, and I could give a breakdown of each song, but I kind of want you to experience this album, it's that kind of album where each song has its own character and story to be told and heard. Yet a really special mention needs to be given to 'the bones of us'. This is Switchfoot's best ever song, their most intimate and their most powerful. Jon Foreman's vocals are at their best and their rawest to date. This song left me feeling on edge and also on the verge of crying. If I was giving an award for song of the year then this would win it hands down.

But this album isn't all about one song, there is so much more going on here, you go on a creative journey. If you are expecting an album like Oh Gravity! or Hello Hurricane you will be dissappointed, as I said Switchfoot never make the same album twice, but if you are expecting to go on a creative music journey then 'interrobang' is a must. I personally have to put it up there with Vice Verses as my favourite Switchfoot album of all time. So to the same old question: what is the new Switchfoot album like? Amazing.
